sprout errata (poem)
1)
core expansion w/ the instinct of pulses
burst into downhill currents.
bury seeds forever. land or sea.
2)
our ships: coaster past thousands,
miles high. we: pace heavy troops
over hardwood decks.
(monochromatic clouds hang
the condemned) but morning never threads
& (again) I wake into midnight.
3)
below decks:
each soldier rough enough around
metal edges: (though) pink skin’s bound
to burst when sharply handled.
sit straight: tight lip quivers, ache sight
knee deep (snap
fingers & head down/ over
cluttered chest): rapture & release.
4)
a blush returns to vacant skin;
hands recalls subtle warmth.
overboard reefs
tear sharp holes across dull boats:
still while heads poke from scarlet tides
my attention, uncut,
5)
(sits below) your nose
snorts wit &
my humor wrestles giants w/
near-severed heads.
(admit:
always wondered what worlds looked like
from down there) contrast,
always wondered what boulders looked like
from up there.
6)
tour mountains outlined
in black against gray backdrops,
sight misleads distance
(bones curse muscle: muscles curse bones)
back & forth eyes reach pencil edges.
corner to corners relate palindromes:
(excite wonder;
run crooked over crowded
streets; dodge cars, dodge statues, dodge trees
7)
over rainbowed landscapes &
deeper chasms: tied to pavement,
what sticks moves faster: I
still bleed & as you drift further
say for your own good:
question
8)
repetitions, repulse,
& the stark above ashes to ashes.
I’ve paddled down rivers:
blamed currents & found roots over sand.
(studied all night:
caught busses, caught planes,
caught fish & never returned
between covers; red
& reread fountains like a bible):
9)
uncomfortable earth shakes ice
from undersides. stands still
& gusts collide over battlefields.
heat me, you paradox, your
warm blood & cold heart turns
my stomach & I toss the same.
core expansion w/ the instinct of pulses
burst into downhill currents.
bury seeds forever. land or sea.
